Overview:

By assessing the risks associated with repetitive strain injuries, the person involved in the activity is able to highlight potential health and safety issues before they result in injury or ill-health. The use of a properly constructed risk assessment means that there is no danger of missing potential hazards, and such hazards are presented to the manager or health and safety representative in a clear and objective way.

What does this mean to the learner’s company?

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places responsibilities upon employers for the health and safety of their staff whilst at work. Failure to take appropriate steps to prevent repetitive strain injuries places employers in potential breach of this legislation. This risk assessment will enable the organisation to identify and deal with relevant health and safety risks at an early stage, and so aid compliance with the law.

Objectives:

The aim of this product to enable the learner to identify RSI risks.

The risk assessment covers:

  • Repetitive movement
  • Excessive force
  • Static exertion
  • Contact stress
  • Incorrect posture
  • Breaks in activity
  • The working environment
  • The impact of existing medical conditions
  • Aim of the Assessment

This risk assessment will enable managers and/or health and safety representatives to identify RSI risks created by poor technique, inappropriate tasks or unsafe working conditions.
